I recently attended a gathering of community organizations in Philadelphia, hosted by the Defender's Association of Philadelphia. The attendees were from all corners of the city helping those impacted by many injustices. The conversation centered around the "public safety crisis" declared by Philadelphia's new mayor Cherelle Parker.
Most of the concern and uncertainty in the room focused on what the new initiative would mean for those who are experiencing homelessness, addiction, or prostitution and the organizations who work tirelessly to provide support and a way out. Listening to this group share their worries and ideas for how to continue to provide services allowed me to recognize how powerful we can be when we embrace partnerships.
At Dawn's Place, we see partnership as the cornerstone of creating lasting change in our community. Our organization, now celebrating our 15th year of healing for survivors of sexual trauma, trafficking, and commercial exploitation, began with the partnership of women from various backgrounds who came together to serve a common need. This partnership was a combination of private and public, religious, and secular.
Our partnerships with other organizations are lifelines for the women in our program. Our alliance with local mental health and recovery providers ensures that the physical and deep trauma of our participants is addressed holistically. Legal assistance, medical support, and addiction resources are also made accessible through these invaluable partnerships. Partnering in this way with local organizations, government agencies, businesses, and religious institutions, we are contributing to our community's overall well-being and resilience.
As we move into fulfilling our mission for the next 15 years, I want you to know how deeply grateful we are for people like you who partner with us. Each of you are a testament to the shared commitment to healing, growth, and empowerment for every woman who has called Dawn's Place home. Thank you for being an integral part of this journey.
